BECOME A DRIVER FAQs

Below are some questions you may want to know the answers to before messaging me.

Lesson Rates

How much is a lesson per hour?

Answer: £38 for manual lessons and £38 for automatic lessons.

Payment for First Lesson

When does the first lesson need to be paid?

Answer: Payment via bank transfer within the 4 days BEFORE the booked lesson.

Test Fees

How much does the practical test cost?

Answer: As of February 1st, 2024 - £23 for the theory test, £62 for practical test and £75 for weekend practical tests.

Please note: These fees are separate from my prices. For the practical test, I charge 3 times the hourly rate.

Lesson Duration

Is it a 45-minute lesson or a full hour?

Answer: You will get as close to 60 minutes as possible. I aim for 1-hour lessons or the equivalent of the hours you've paid for.

Choice of Car

Which car will I be learning in?

Answer:

For manual lessons: 1.6 diesel Peugeot 208- PICTURED ABOVE

For automatic lessons: Toyota Auris 1.8 petrol hybrid- PICTURED BELOW

Presence in the Car

Will someone be in the back of the car during lessons?

Answer: No, I don't have observers during regular lessons.

If you want a friend in the back on your lesson once or twice, you can when you feel confident for that.

The only people in the back might be on the test day which could be a supervising examiner watching the examiner not you.

Covering Test Routes

Do I cover the test routes for familiarity?

Answer: You will cover the test areas, but not specific routes to memorise. Familiarity with the general areas, rather than specific routes, is emphasised. Consistency in routes may lead to over-reliance, and adapting to changes in test routes is better for overall

How many hours will I need?

Determining the exact number of hours varies for each individual. The DVSA provides a rough estimate of 55 hours. Some learners require as few as 8 hours, while others may need up to 108 hours. It's a unique journey for everyone, making precise predictions challenging.

Best Material for Theory Study

I recommend the Driving Test Success app, along with resources like the Highway Code or the "Instructor's Bible" - Driving: The Essential Skills book. These materials are available on platforms like eBay, online marketplaces, or at the end of aisles in supermarkets and bookstores.

Dealing with Nervousness

If you're a nervous driver, don't worry. I've coached various students with different levels of anxiety, including those who vomit before or cry during lessons. You are not alone. I create a supportive, non-judgmental environment and encourage open communication. Feel free to ask for help or guidance.

Areas Covered

I typically cover postcodes beginning with B63/4/5 and DY2/5/8/9. If you're in a nearby area, send me a message, and we can discuss options based on availability, postcode, and your vehicle preference.

Cancelled Lessons Policy
Yes, cancelled lessons are charged. Less than 48 hours' notice to cancel will incur charges. If you booked the lesson, you are responsible for the associated cost.
